Learning Objectives
Understanding of classical and quantum descriptions of the interaction between matter and radiation, including some relativistic effects.
Detailed Course Content
Maxwell equation and electromagnetic radiation, Hamiltonian formulation of electrodynamics, quantization of electromagnetic field, electron-photon interaction, excited atoms, spontaneous emission, diffusion. Relativistic effects, Dirac equation, relativistic scattering.
