I spent a lovely year in Catania from 2017 to 2018 doing the first year of the Erasmus Mundus program in Applied Nuclear Physics. I originally come from Russia, and it was my first time abroad for so much time and Catania was a perfect blend of good studying environment and incredibly nice people. Regarding the lectures, they were informative indeed, we covered many physical phenomena at a very advanced level and all the professors were really friendly and supportive. Many of them work in labs on-site so we had a chance to see the eye melanoma treatment room at the proton therapy center in INFN-LNS.

The best thing of Catania is how the city lives. Catania has suffered least from globalization in a good way and you can imagine yourself being in ancient times going to the Fiera or Pescheria early in the morning. You can also go to the beach or to the snowy mountains, depending on your mood. In Catania, I met a bunch of nice people both at uni and in the city in general. I learned Italian quite well with the support of my friends and I could really enjoy the city environment which was extremely 'accogliente'. I miss those time a lot and I can say you will never regret if you spend your Erasmus time in Sicily.

Buon fine settimana!
