Marcos Juanes

Hi everyone! I'm Marcos (but I guess anyone else, no mind his/her name, would feel the same as me), a Spanish world traveler from Valladolid who spent a year in Catania as an Erasmus student time ago (2012). My experience from the beginning has no complaints whatsoever, in fact it was quit the opposite. Above all, the best references I can give about my year in there, are about the local people I met. I have to spend some words in one of the person who made possible and special this experience. The Erasmus supervisor at the host university took care about everything needed from our first contact (a year before my departure) and he represents the real spirit of a global ‘Catanese personality’. Wherever you go, everywhere you feel comfortable! People at the university are amazing (as well the faculty facilities were quite good compared with those where I came from), the lessons were very interactive and the student atmosphere inside the faculty building was beautiful (always students around the corridors up to study, chat, or have fun). About the city, nothing bad to comment (not even a word). It’s like pure life: sometimes active, sometimes cahotic, sometimes something unexpected happens … but it’s never boring. Maybe Catania is not the most beautiful city in the world (although it is beautiful enough), maybe the buildings are not the newest buildings you have ever seen, maybe sometimes it is difficult to find a specific street, but a part of that Catania is sublime: really good food (and cheap too), the highest active volcano in Europe is always in sight (from all parts of the city), easy to walk around, pretty close to several exciting places (such as Siracusa, Taormina, or Acireale), it has a beach accessible by foot from the city center, and a great etc. I will never definitely regret being there! Always ready to return!
