Lorenzo Pappalardo

Сәлем, mен Лоренцо!
I am a master's student in Nuclear Physics at the DFA, UniCT.
I have just come back from a two-month period, between September and October 2025, spent in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan where I was a guest in L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University.
As part of the NUMEN collaboration, under the supervision of Professor Francesco Cappuzzello, I participated in an international mobility program that allowed me to carry out a tiny research on neutrinoless double beta decay. This experience gave me a deeper understanding of what it means to do research in nuclear physics today, working closely with people that have been studying this topic for years.
However, my stay in Astana was not just an academic journey. During this period, in a not really conventional destination, I had the opportunity to experience an authentic culture completely different from ours. I must say, however, that we Catanesi and Kazakhs people share the same passion for horse meat.
I met extremely kind and hospitable people from all over central Asia and Russia.
But, what struck me most and made me fall in love with this country was its immense and unspoiled natural landscape.
Сау бол және рақмет!
