Carmen Recio Pérez

Ciao a tutti! I’m Mamen Recio, a student of the Bachelor in Physics from the Universidad de Salamanca (Spain). I've been an Erasmus student in Catania at the DFA during the academic year 2021-2022.

I chose to do an Erasmus in Catania to get to know a different culture, food and people and it has surprised me so far! I didn’t know at all how the experience and the city of Catania were going to be, but I’ve fallen in love with it: Catania has something special. This year has been amazing, I’ve met so many people I consider friends now, I improved my English, learnt Italian, eaten great food, traveled through Sicily, and my favourite thing: I’ve watched mama Etna crown over Catania every second I could.

In the department I’ve learnt a lot of Physics and Italian (well, a bit of English too!) attending the classes and going to the lab, which I loved! I was scared at first about taking oral exams and the way of grading here but I’ve come to like it and I feel like I have enjoyed more my academic life and the courses I was taking because I wasn’t dying from stress all the time.

All in all, I would recommend this experience to anyone. I know living abroad and far from your family and friends can be difficult at first but I’ve grown a lot as a person and I’ve found another family here composed by people I wouldn’t even imagine. I feel enriched by every opportunity this experience offered and I would do it again and again and again.
