2nd ASTERICS Virtual Observatory School
The ASTERICS (http://asterics2020.eu/) project is organising its second VO School.
The school will take place during 15-17 November 2016 at Observatoire Astronomique de Strasbourg, Strasbourg, France.
The Virtual Observatory (VO) is opening up new ways of exploiting the huge amount of data provided by the ever-growing number of ground-based and space facilities, as well as by computer simulations. The goal of the School is twofold: Expose European astronomers and representatives of the ESFRI project involved in ASTERICS to the variety of VO tools and services available today so that they can use them efficiently for their own research and gather requirement and feedback from them.
To achieve these goals, VO experts will lecture and tutor the participants on the usage of VO tools and services. Real life examples of scientific applications will be given. A large fraction of the time will be dedicated to hands-on exercises, which will allow participants to become fully familiar with the VO capabilities on their own laptops.
In order to ensure the right level of interaction, participation will be restricted to a limited number of participants (40). Preference will be given to PhD students and post-docs.

Ground and space-based instruments for future research in Solar-Terrestrial physics
The International School of Space Science of the Consorzio Interuniversitario per la Fisica Spaziale organizes a Course on “Ground and space-based instruments for future research in Solar-Terrestrial physics”, to be held in L’Aquila, Italy, June 6-10, 2016, at the Gran Sasso Science Institute and directed by F. Berrilli, S. Jefferies, C. Scotto.
The course is designed for PhD students and young post-doctoral researchers. The school will offer an interactive, hands-on approach to the computational and experimental techniques that will be applied in the next generation of ground- and space-based instruments for solar-terrestrial physics related research. In particular, a mix of experienced scientists and engineers will provide an integrated overview of the experimental techniques that are being applied in the observation and forecasting of Solar Activity, Space Weather, and the conditions in the Earth’s magnetosphere and ionosphere: all of which are important components of Space Situational Awareness.
Applications are due before March 27th 2016 through the School website
