New opportunities in an "old" material: silicon nanoindentation and defect control

The first part of this talk explores new phases of Si formed by nanoindentation that have intriguing electrical properties. The second part looks at optical properties of Si related to ion implanted interstitial defects and prospects of LEDs and lasers built in silicon.
