Microscopic description of Bose-Einstein condensates in the large-gas-paremeter region

In this talk, we discuss the energetics and structure of a hard sphere Bose gas by comparing several many-body techniques. After that, we consider a trapped hard-sphere Bose gas and compare the results with the ones provided by the Gross-Pitaevskii and modified Gross-Pitaevskii equations. We examine both the ground state and excited states having a vortex line along the z axis at high values of the gas paremeter. We find an excellent agreement between the modified Gross-Pitaevskii and ab initio Monte Carlo methods, both for the ground and vortices states.
