Contest of science communication and cultural richness

On July 29, 2024, at 12:00 noon, in the Aula Magna, DFA, the 0th Contest of science communication and cultural richness will take place.

PhD students, young researchers and students of the MSc programme in Physics are invited to participate.

Description

• One of the most inspiring things in scientific research activity is the chance to work with people coming from different regions and with different backgrounds
• Scientists are typically rewarded by the discovery of laws or relationships among data, meanwhile the knowledge of different habits and cultures is an enrichment too
• A specific cultural aspect (way of dressing, characteristic dance or song, traditional recipe, tourist attraction, natural beauty, ...) narrated by the researcher can be put in analogy with a scientific result
• Sharing a scientific result together with a specific cultural aspect can be an effective way of science communication: "cultural entangled science communication"

Rules

• English language
• from PhD students to young researchers (up to 40 yrs old)
• MSc (magistrale) students are welcome as well
• use of visual support (up to 3 slides, or images or poster or objects)
• 3 to 5 minutes

Criteria

• Clarity in the presentation
• Creative storytelling
• Strength of science-cultural analogy
• Effectiveness in the use of time
• Effectiveness in the use of visual support.
