International Cosmic Day 2018

International Cosmic Day 2018

Become a Scientist for a Day: Discover the world of cosmic rays like an astroparticle physicist

The 7th edition of the International Cosmic Day (ICD) will take place on Thursday, November 29, 2018. Students from all around the world will be involved in experiments on cosmic ray physics. The will interact with researchers in this field. The event is organized by Desy, and an increasing number of students coming from schools from all countries have recently participated to it. The Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Catania, will also host activities of the International Cosmic Day, with the support of both the DFA and the National Institute for Nuclear Physics - INFN, Catania Section. In particular, Catania will be one of the 10 nodes in Italy which will host students of the Extreme Energy Events (EEE) Project. That's an experiment on cosmic rays, not only important for basic science, but also relevant for teaching science. It is supported by the Centro Fermi in Rome, in collaboration with CERN and INFN (https://eee.centrofermi.it). During the Day, activities going on in the different nodes will be shared and discussed via an international videoconference with the other schools participating to the ICD. This will be an opportunity for young students to exchange information on their scientific activity, as it is normal in scientific research. For more information, please see https://icd.desy.de/, where it is also possible to view the world map of the participants to the 7th ICD (https://icd.desy.de/e25775/).
