Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (IMM-CNR)

The Institute for Microelectronics and Microsystems (IMM) is an Institute of Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR), the largest public research institution in Italy, formed by 7 Units. IMM is worldwide recognized as a centre of excellence for basic and applied research on advanced nanotechnology. The main skills concern the synthesis, processing and characterization of different materials for several applications in the field of microelectronics and microsystems.

The IMM Catania (University) Unit, located inside the Department of Physics and Astronomy "Ettore Majorana" of the University of Catania, is a unique example of strong and fruitful interaction between University and CNR. Our Unit is formed by researchers, technicians and administrative staff, and includes post doc fellows and PhD students. Several University Professors are associated to our Unit and fully involved in the research activities.

The main expertise of this Unit is represented by the realization and characterization of innovative nanostructured materials, through the development of new synthesis methodologies, with applications in Si photonics, photovoltaics, sensing and water treatment. A theoretical activity on coherent dynamics of nanosystems is also led in the Unit.
