The Cannizzaro Hospital in Catania, having finally received all needed authorizations, has issued the Call for Tender for the design, construction, procurements and management of its new Clinical Center of Protontherapy. This way a 10-year long endeavour of lobbying and project development is nearing its end, with the approval of the Sicilian Regional Ministry of Publich Health and exploiting EU funding resources. The project focuses on an accelerator of energy sufficient to treat all tumors, including the ones with deep locations inside the human body. This represents a great victory for all Physicists of Catania, who have conducted a so long activity in positive sinergy between INFN and the University.
